Drone View of Valley View Schools Solar Panels
Last January, the Valley View Board of Education approved the installation of solar panels at Jane Addams, Humphrey, and Lukancic Middle Schools, along with B.J. Ward and Jamie McGee Elementary Schools. The installation of the panels was completed in mid-July by Performance Services, a company specializing in renovation of school, municipal and hospital buildings.
Check out the drone video taken in July by Performance Services which shows the solar panels on the roofs of the school buildings. The panels are currently producing electricity at the five schools, which were selected for this project based on having recent roof renovation projects. (The longevity of the panels is similar to that of the roofs.)
The five schools need about 5.5 million kilowatts of energy per year, and the panels produce about 3.0 million kilowatts per year. Over a 25-year period, it is estimated there will be $10 million in energy savings which can then be applied to other programs that serve Valley View students. As you watch the video, check out a couple of cool things: the tree in the little courtyard at Jamie McGee Elementary School; and the beautiful courtyard at Lukancic Middle School.
